Recruitment FAQs

If you have any recruitment-related questions that are not answered on this page, please contact gupanhellenic@gmail.com!

What is Recruitment?

Formal Recruitment is a 4-day event held each fall when both Panhellenic sororities come together to meet potential new members (PNMs) in a structured fashion. Throughout the weekend, PNMs will have the opportunity to meet members of Kappa and Theta about their chapters and become familiar with their values, ideals and activities. The event is broken into four rounds, including an information session where PNMs will be provided with more information regarding the process.

What is a PNM? And who is elligible to go through recruitment?

PNM stands for Potential New Member and represents any student eligible to go through recruitment. Any woman who is a full time undergrad student at Georgetown, has not pledged a sorority in the past calendar year, AND has never been initiated into a Panhellenic Sorority is eligible to go through recruitment. This means upperclassmen are welcome to go through recruitment!

How do I participate in Recruitment?

In order to participate in recruitment, you must attend ONE of our two mandatory info sessions, register for recruitment online, and pay the $5 fee (this pays for the online system we use to run recruitment).

If you are unable to attend either of the info sessions, email gupanhellenic@gmail.com, and we can send you the information covered in the session.

Registration for recruitment is now open! You can register at: gupanhellenic.mycampusdirector2.com

Do I need to submit any recommendations?

You are welcome to submit recommendations through each of the individual chapters, but they are not a required part of recruitment. Submitting recommendations can help the chapters learn more about your involvement outside of academics, but those who submit recommendations will not have an advantage over those that don't in the recruitment process.

What is expected of me as a potential new member going through recruitment?

As a potential new member, we expect you to attend ALL required recruitment events. In addition, we hope you enter recruitment with an open mind and willingness to meet and connect with a diverse, unique group of women. We want you to consider your goals, aspirations and passions and think about what you want to gain from Georgetown and how you see membership in a sorority contributing to that vision. These thoughts are great ways to begin conversations with women in chapters and will help you find your best fit.

Keep in mind that the women you choose to accept a bid from will become important people in your life, even beyond college; therefore it is important to choose a group whose ideals line up with yours. Remember, it's not four years, but for life!

What do I do if I have a time conflict with one or more Recruitment rounds?

It is very important that each PNM attends as many recruitment events as possible. However, if you have class, work, or interviews during any of the recruitment rounds, there is no need to miss these for recruitment. Let me repeat. do not miss class for recruitment! Many conflicts do not last the entirety of the round, and we are willing to make special accommodations. If you must come late or leave early for any of the rounds, please email us explaining your situation, and we will work out a convenient schedule.

All absences should be emailed to gupanhellenic@gmail.com as soon as possible. Absences for class, work, and interviews will be excused. All other excuses will be handled on a case by case basis.

*Please note, it is important to take recruitment seriously, and this includes making the effort to attend all possible rounds of recruitment. If a PNM is absent from a round of recruitment without notifying us beforehand, we reserve the right to release that PNM from recruitment.

Can I go through recruitment in the Spring?

Georgetown's formal recruitment process occurs in the Fall. While there is no formal recruitment process in the Spring, some sororities may hold an informal recruitment process during the Spring semester. If you are not ready to join a sorority this semester, you can check back here in January to see if any sororities will hold informal recruitment.

What is a Rho Gamma?

Rho Gammas are sorority members who temporarily disaffiliate from their chapters to help PNMs find their perfect fit! Their purpose during Recruitment is to provide unbiased guidance and counsel PNMs through the process. Their affiliations remain secret during recruitment, and your Rho Gamma will reveal her affiliation on bid day. If you have any questions or concerns during formal recruitment, don't hesitate to ask your Rho Gamma - that's why she's here!

I'm not getting any Recruitment-related emails. What should I do?

If you have registered for recruitment, but still are not getting the emails, please email gupanhellenic@gmail.com with your name and preferred email address. We'll make sure you get all future updates!
