Kappa Alpha Theta

Kappa Alpha Theta is the first Greek-letter fraternity known among women. It was founded in 1870 by Bettie Locke Hamilton at Indiana Asbury College, now DePauw University. After declining to wear the badge of an all-male fraternity at the newly co-ed college, Bettie Locke decided to create her own all-female fraternity to offer friendship and support to the women on campus.

Currently, Kappa Alpha Theta is an international organization, present in the United States and Canada. This fraternity follows the motto: leading women. It is also a large sponsor of service and philanthropy. Our major philanthropies include CASA, Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation, and the Friendship Fund.

The Theta Iota Chapter was established at Georgetown in 2014. Annually, we host a Signature Philanthropy Event, Bettie Locke Day of Service, a scholarship banquet, alumnae events, formals, and numerous sisterhood events. Our sisters come from all backgrounds, but are connected through one channel--Theta.
